The night was dark and there were to lie, The stars scintillating in the evening sky. The mystic Mayan pyramid stood up close, As I approached having travelled the rainforest. When I came nearer the stairs rose, Entwinned like a serpent the stairs pointed west. Having climbed up, I was inside a room, The place seemed ancient almost like a tomb. I placed my golden talisman in an observed empty hole. 'At last,' I shouted, ' I have reached my goal!' The walls began to open up, and there inside, Were treasures abundant and no longer so as to hide, What the mystic pyramid had to show, Were rich ingots of gold shining bright yellow.
The poem relates to an archaeologist searching for some long lost Mayan treasure within an ancient Mayan pyramid.
